Lilly is a fuzzy Mustang mare, full of personality and patience. She is a crowd favorite with her docile and quiet disposition, yet has a way of teaching even the smallest riders how to be strong leaders. Lilly was our resident "beginner pony" for many years, but is now enjoying the retired life and participates in our low-intensity community programs- as long as there are treats involved!
We are thrilled to have Hustler as part of our program, as he can be whatever is needed from his rider! He is great with the first time beginners looking to build confidence, as he would prefer to keep things slow and steady. Or he can step it up with a rider whose asking for a little more intensity. Hustler truly is the all-around boy!
Ally May is by far the sassiest and most lovable of the group. In her former life, Ally was a semi-professional Barrel Racer and has not lost one ounce of her spunk. Ally is now fully retired but loves to fill in occasionally for ground work lessons and getting pampered in our low-intensity community programs.
DoubleStar Equestrian has been lucky to have Cuervo as a part of our lesson program on and off over the years, but we are thrilled that he can officially call us his permanent home. His direct and persnickety personality makes Cuervo an excellent teacher for intermediate and above riders. While the main focus of his career has previously been Western, now as a semi-retired guy he's actually loving life as an English horse and Dressage!
At DoubleStar Equestrian, one of our top priorities is helping our horses feel their best so they can perform their best. That is why we are SO blessed to not only have Madison as a client, but also our in-barn Equine Massage Therapist. Madison has helped not only improve the comfort and performance of our equine athletes and lesson horses, she's also assisted in developing therapy and rehab plans for injured and recovering horses or horses actively in training.
Madison is the owner of Casino, an aged black Quarter Horse/ Thoroughbred cross gelding that joined the DoubleStar training program in 2020. While she knew he would be a "project horse" when she bought him, Casino proved to need much more than additional groceries and mental rehab training. Through the course of his training, it became clear that an unknown previous injury was causing issues with his performance and preventing Casino to have full range of motion in his spine. Closely working with Equine Chiropractors and Veterinarians, Casino would also require ongoing massage therapy to allow his spine and the muscles surrounding it to improve. In an effort to learn more and be the best owner she could for him, Madison decided to become certified in Equine Massage Therapy herself!
Every horse will benefit from massage therapy! Whether they are a high level performance horse, lesson pony, or trusty trail mount, Massage therapy helps to improve flexibility, increase circulation, relieves muscle tension and encourage relaxation. Lovingly referred to as the "Barn Boys", these three felines joined our farm in the summer of 2024 after the Notorious Mrs. Whiskers was no longer able to fulfill her barn duties. Pictured from left to right are Biscuit, Basil, and RigaToni, three brother cats who were rescued from a hoarding situation and deemed "feral" by Ingham Country Animal Shelter. Though it did not take long for Kelly to determine these boys were not actually feral, but more so very confused about what it meant to be a cat. While these boys bring so much love and entertainment to the barn, they were horrible candidates for the position of "mouse control". It is perceived that between the three of them, they all share one single braincell, and not one of them actually wants to get their paws dirty. They are loved all the same, and you can often catch Kelly carrying Biscuit in a Baby Bjorn carrier during lessons.
Zip Me Up Doc, aka Zip, was everyone's favorite Old Man. Known for his "Clint Eastwood" personality, Zip was an honest and fair teacher for all levels of riders. Zip was the most trusted for our beginner show riders, earning the "Worth Their Weight In Gold" Award at his retirement show in September of 2021. Zip took care of each rider who needed it, and offered a little spunk for those that could handle it.
Yankee Accent, aka Lucky, was owned and immensely loved by Anna Munie for over 10 years. Anna graciously shared him with our program during his retirement to keep his brain and body active. Lucky was a valued member of our teaching staff for over two years after retiring from a high-level reining career. DSE Riders loved him for his larger than life personality, smooth gaits, and love of Poptarts.
